The European Parkinson’s Disease
Association (EPDA) is the only European umbrella organisation for
Parkinson’s disease. A non-political, non-religious, and non-profit
making organisation, it represents 45 member organisations and is the
advocate for the rights and needs of over 1.2 million people with
Parkinson’s and their families.
EPDA’s vision is to enable a full life with Parkinson’s whilst
supporting the search for a cure and seeks to achieve this by raising
awareness and reducing inequalities in the treatment and management of
Parkinson’s disease across Europe.
EPDA is highly respected and well known throughout Europe and
internationally. It is a committed, vibrant, and energetic organisation
and requires a committed and energetic Board.
The Administration Board welcomes nominations for election from
enthusiastic people who are familiar with and have participated in the
work of the EPDA.
Duration
Board members are elected by the General Assembly for a term of three
years and may be re-elected by the General Assembly at the end of their
term.
Selection committee

two past-elected Board members
-
one present-elected Board member if NOT standing for election
(if all Board members are standing for re-election, the Board will
select a representative)

at least one person with Parkinson’s
-
the committee will search for and select nominations during the year immediately following the election of the present Board
-
the committee will provide an agreed written recommendation
and evaluation of their discussions/ communications with interested
nominees to the Board.
The role of the EPDA administration board
-
it confirms that the EPDA budget can support the full participation of the proposed number of Board members
-
it must seek to maintain the widest possible geographic representation by its Board members
-
it must submit successful nominations to the annual General
Assembly the year prior to elections for ratification by the delegates.
Nominees
-
must meet personally with the elected Board
-
once application has been ratified by the General Assembly,
the nominee will, in the year of election, attend Board meetings as an
observer.
Requirements for election by General Assembly
Nominees must:
-
be enthusiastic and committed people who are familiar with,
and have participated in, the work of the EPDA during the last three
years
-
they can be either a person with Parkinson’s, carer, patient organisation representative or healthcare professional
-
they must reflect the geographic spread of the EPDA
-
they need to have been actively involved in pursuing their
respective association’s initiatives, achievements and goals for a
period of no less than five years
-
they must have the written support of their association to stand for a position on the Board
-
the association they represent must have fully paid its EPDA membership fees in the current year and for the last five years.
Other requirements
Nominees must:

have the ability to work and communicate in English

demonstrate communication skills

be a team player
-
have the willingness to accept and handle responsibility

show motivation and commitment
-
have a sense of humour
-
be available to travel and attend EPDA meetings
-
be willing to devote the time required to attend EPDA meetings
-
have flexible working arrangements and be able to fit in with weekend meetings and mid-week telephone conference calls.
Each nomination has to be accompanied by:

written support from the nominee’s association (signed by the president or chairperson)

an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae
-
up-to-date photograph that is good enough quality for publication.
