Plasma urate in REM sleep behavior disorder
Conclusions: Higher levels of plasma urate were associated with a longer duration of RBD without converting to PD. Future prospective studies would be needed to confirm this finding

Interplay between α -synuclein aggregates and macroautophagy
Results: Modulation of macroautophagic activity does not affect α-synuclein aggregate levels while these aggregates cause accumulation of immature autophagosomes.

Catecholamines and Neurodegeneration in Parkinson's DiseaseFrom Diagnostic Marker to Aggregations of α-Synuclein
Here, authors review findings relating to an early diagnostic marker for detecting degeneration of the peripheral sympathetic nerves, and propose the hypothesis that catecholamines cause alpha-synuclein to aggregate and play an important role in disease pathogenesis.

Longitudinal assessment of olfactory function in idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder
Conclusions: In IRBD, olfactory identification and detection deficits do not worsen over time. Serial olfactory tests may not serve as an outcome measure in future disease-modifying trials in IRBD.

Dopamine restores reward prediction errors in old age
Study results identify a neurochemical signature underlying abnormal reward processing in older adults and indicate that this can be modulated by L-DOPA.

Management of Motor and Non-Motor Symptoms in Parkinson's Disease
This review focuses on medical and invasive treatment strategies for early and advanced stages of PD as well as on the treatment of PD non-motor symptoms such as mood and behavioural disorders, cognitive and autonomic dysfunction, and sleep disorders, which can antedate PD motor symptoms for years.

Drug-induced dyskinesia in PD. Should success in clinical management be a function of improvement of motor repertoire rather ...
The current paper proposes a new way to view the management of dyskinesia in an integrated fashion. Authors suggest that dyskinesia be considered as a factor in a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) equation where the signal is the voluntary movement and the noise is PD symptomatology, including dyskinesia. The goal of clinicians should be to ensure a high SNR in order to maintain or enhance the motor repertoire of patients.

Measuring mild cognitive impairment in patients with Parkinson's disease
Authors examined the frequency of Parkinson disease with mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI) and its subtypes and the accuracy of 3 cognitive scales for detecting PD-MCI using the new criteria for PD-MCI proposed by the Movement Disorders Society. Nondemented patients with Parkinson's disease completed a clinical visit with the 3 screening tests followed 1 to 3 weeks later by neuropsychological testing.

High-resolution tracking of motor disorders in Parkinson's disease during unconstrained activity
The objective of this study was to validate disease-related metabolic brain patterns for Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, and progressive supranuclear palsy.

Risk factors for hallucinations in Parkinson's disease: Results from a large prospective cohort study
These findings lend support to the notion that hallucinations in PD are caused by a combination of risk factors that are associated with (the interaction between) older age and more advanced disease. The identification of female sex as a risk factor for developing of hallucinations in PD is a new finding and should be verified in future studies.
