- Eldepryl® (selegiline) is supplied as tablets for oral administration, in two different strengths; 5 mg and 10 mg
- In the UK, Eldepryl® is also available as a syrup at a strength of 2 mg/mL
- Do not store above 25°C. Keep the container tightly closed and store in the original packaging
- Keep Eldepryl® out of the reach and sight of children
- Do not use after the expiry date stated on the label or carton
Therapeutic indication (who is it for?)
- Eldepryl® (selegiline) is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease either as initial monotherapy in early disease to postpone the need for levodopa/dopa decarboxylase inhibitor (DDCI) therapy, or as an adjunct therapy to levodopa/DDCI
Contra-indications (When not to use)
- Known hypersensitivity to selegiline or other components of the formulation
Note: Any questions you may have regarding treatment with Eldepryl® should be discussed with your doctor
Special warnings and precautions for use
- It is very important not to exceed the daily recommended dose of Eldepryl® (selegiline) (10 mg/day) for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease
- Be careful with Eldepryl® and check with your doctor:
- If you have a peptic or duodenal ulcer
- If you have a fluctuating blood pressure (labile hypertension)
- If you have an irregular heartbeat (cardiac arrhythmia)
- If you have severe chest pain (angina pectoris)
- If you have severe liver or kidney dysfunction
- If you have psychosis

How to take Eldepryl®
- Eldepryl® (selegiline) should be taken orally, either as a single dose of 10 mg in the morning or in two divided doses of 5 mg, taken at breakfast and lunch
- The 10 mg daily dose is used both when Eldepryl® is used as monotherapy or as an adjunct to levodopa
Note: You should be provided with detailed instructions on how to take Eldepryl® by your doctor. Any additional questions you may have should be discussed with your doctor
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction
- Taking Eldepryl® (selegiline) together with a non-selective monoamine oxide (MAO)-inhibitor may cause severe hypotension
- No tolerability problems have been reported when a combination of Eldepryl® and moclobemide, an inhibitor of MAO-A, are taken together. However, due to increased tyramine sensitivity, patients taking both selegiline and moclobemide should avoid food and drink containing large amounts
of tyramine, such as aged cheese, yeast products, beer and red wine
- Concomitant use of Eldepryl® with certain tricyclic antidepressants and some selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) should be avoided due to risk of serious reactions. These include:
- Fluoxetine
- Sertraline
- Paroxetine
- Venlafaxine
- Fluvoxamine
- Citalopram
- Other drugs that should not be used with Eldepryl® due to potential interactions include:
- Dopamine should be used cautiously in patients receiving selegiline, due to possible occurrence of hypertensive reactions
- Use of oral contraceptives (tablets containing the combination of gestodene/ethinyl oestradiol or levonorgestrel/ethinyl oestradiol) together with selegiline may increase the effects of selegiline
Pregnancy and lactation
- If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding do not take Eldepryl® (selegiline)
Effects on ability to drive & use machines
- No effects on ability to drive or operate machines are known
Possible undesirable effects of Eldepryl®
- Eldepryl® (selegiline) is generally well-tolerated. However, as with any medication some people may experience side effects as a result of treatment. For more information, look at the information sheet that comes with each new pack of tablets
- Eldepryl® increases the effects of levodopa. Therefore, the adverse reactions associated with levodopa, e.g. abnormal movements (such as dyskinesias), nausea, agitation, confusion, hallucinations, headache, postural hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias and vertigo may be emphasised.
Such adverse reactions usually disappear when the levodopa dosage is decrease
Note: If you develop any new symptoms or problems after starting on Eldepryl®, it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately
