Introduction
First Eastern European Roadshow to Hungary
Visit at the Neurological Clinic of Semmelweis Medical University
In
2003 the EPDA Board discussed how they, as a European umbrella
organisation, could learn more about how the Eastern European patient
associations and health service provision functioned, and what could be
learned and shared.
This led to the concept of ‘buddying’
whereby a Western European organisation would team up with an Eastern
European organisation, taking a ‘road show’ team of healthcare
professionals into that country. The first was a partnership between
Sweden and Hungary jointly led by Susanna Lindvall, EPDA Vice President
and Vice President of the Swedish Parkinson Association, and Dr András
Fazekas from the Hungarian Scientific Parkinson’s Association.
Why
Hungary? Well when embarking on a new project such as this, language is
key and Hungarian born Susanna, fluent in the language, ‘volunteered’!
