Background
In 1995, the EPDA, with F.Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, produced the flexicard. The size of a credit card it was designed so that people could keep it in their
wallets or purse along with their credit cards
The card had space for
the person to write the name, address and telephone number of an
emergency contact in the event that help was needed.
At the back of each card is written:
“ I have Parkinson's
disease.
Please allow me time.
In case of an emergency contact ......”
Each card contained this statement in 5 other languages
including English. In all, 3 cards were produced that covered 12
languages.
However, it was
clear from the many requests the EPDA
received, people wanted a card that covered many more languages.
