Time to change
This issue of EPDA Extra is all about delving into the past to provide a glimpse into a possible future. Patient management must improve. And so, EPDA patron Mary Baker issues a rallying call and outlines the ‘Move for Change’ campaign
Forcing the issue
In June, representatives from 12 European countries – either members from various national Parkinson’s organisations or healthcare professionals – assembled in Amsterdam to debate whether the aims of the Charter for people with Parkinson’s, launched 12 years ago, have been addressed in their respective countries. Waiting for change was no longer an option
Compare and contrast
At the summit, EPDA Extra talked to two neurologists from two European countries at opposite ends of the disease spectrum. Over the next four pages, they share knowledge and reveal what works for their nations and what doesn’t
A tale of two countries
The gap in knowledge between the minority specialists and the majority of neurologists is huge in Italy, and much of the scientific progress has not been translated into the lives of PWPs
Action plan
In response to the results of its summit research, the EPDA has spearheaded a major new campaign to urge European governments and media industries to review their approach to Parkinson’s. ‘Move for Change’ will centre around a European Parkinson’s ‘action day’ and carefully co-ordinated activities directed at European and national parliaments, medical professionals and the general public, as well as the EPDA member organisations themselves
