Guidelines for submitting

Copy Deadlines

  • Advertisement copy deadlines are the last week of the month before the distribution month.  Reminders will be sent to all advertisers of these dates on a quarterly basis
  • EPDA Plus is published and distributed in Spring, Summer, and Winter


Guide for Articles

The main focus of EPDA Plus is European Parkinson’s disease /neurological news and features, suitable for the readership described above. However, we also welcome subscribers and articles from people throughout the world.

Number of words

Articles are generally no more than two pages in length.  For general guidance:

  • 2 pages is approximately 1,200 - 1,300 words including graphs and pictures (excluding references)
  • 1 page is approximately 750 words including graphs and pictures (excluding references)

PD associations section (always commissioned)

  • Short article or news item is approximately 350 words

Technical Specifications for Advertisers

Dimensions:

  • Strip advert dimensions: (Width x Height) 210mm x 50mm
  • Single page dimensions: (Width x Height) 210mm x 297mm
  • Bleed allowance: 3mm (additional to page dimensions)

Note: All adverts should be supplied with a colour accurate proof

Advertising or graphics should be provided in electronic format. We would prefer CDs’ formatted in Mackintosh QuarkXpress 6.1 with all High Resolution images (please see below), screen and printer fonts and any relevant extensions. Images must be saved as CMYK. A colour hard copy proof is essential.  A PDF file should also be sent to the following email address: epdaplus@epda.eu.com 

Images must be provided separately at 300 dpi (minimum) at the final printed output size. Lower resolution images may exhibit aliasing or pixelization that may be evident in print.

Image file formats accepted are EPS, TIFF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, or BMP and where possible be in composite CMYK colour space.

Photoshop, Corel Draw and Illustrator files are accepted although where you have used complex fills or masks in your document, please flatten or convert these before saving. Wherever possible, please embed all fonts used or supply attached with the file.

Pictures which have been inserted into Word for Windows documents cannot be used.

Preferred format for theEPDA Plus is MACINTOSH although for all submissions, PC files are preferable.

Settings for Adobe Acrobat

When distilling to PDF, the following are recommended settings for high quality output:

General

  • Compatibility: Acrobat 3.0
  • Optimize PDF
  • Generate / Embed Thumbnails
  • Resolution: 2,400 dpi
  • Binding: Left


Compression

  • Color and Grayscale Images
  • Bicubic Downsampling: 300dpi
  • Compression: JPEG
  • Quality: Maximum


Monochrome Images

  • Bicubic Downsampling to 1200dpi
  • Compression: CCITT Group 4
  • Compress Text and Line Art


Fonts

  • Embed All Fonts
  • Subset fonts below 100%


Color

  • Leave Color Unchanged


Advanced

  • Allow PostScript File to Override Job Options
  • Preserve Level 2 copypage Semantics
  • Save Portable Job Ticket inside PDF File
  • Illustrator Overprint Mode
  • Convert Gradients to Smooth Shades
