Large differences in levodopa dose requirement in Parkinson's disease: men use higher doses than women
Study concludes that the levodopa requirement in Parkinson's ranges considerably, and that men use higher levodopa dose than women.

Long-term antidyskinetic efficacy of amantadine in Parkinson's disease
This study was performed to assess the long-term antidyskinetic effect of amantadine in PD patients. The findings argue for long-term antidyskinetic efficacy of amantadine in PD patients with LID's.

Genitourinary dysfunction in Parkinson's disease
Bladder dysfunction (urinary urgency/frequency) and sexual dysfunction (erectile dysfunction) are common nonmotor disorders in Parkinson's disease (PD). In contrast to motor disorders, genitourinary autonomic dysfunctions are often nonresponsive to levodopa treatment.

Dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome in Parkinson disease
Dopamine agonists have a stereotyped withdrawal syndrome that can lead to profound disability in a subset of patients.

Orodispersible sublingual piribedil to abort OFF episodes
A single dose placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind, cross-over study. S90049, a novel sublingual formulation of the non-ergoline D(2)-D(3) agonist piribedil, has a pharmacokinetic profile promising to provide rapid relief on motor signs in Parkinson's disease (PD).

Glycopyrrolate for sialorrhea in Parkinson disease: a randomized, double-blind, crossover trial
Sialorrhea affects approximately 75% of patients with Parkinson disease (PD). Sialorrhea is often treated with anticholinergics, but central side effects limit their usefulness.

Serotonin 2A receptors and visual hallucinations in Parkinson disease
Complex visual hallucinations (VHs) occur in several pathologic conditions; however, the neural mechanisms underlying these symptoms remain unclear. Although dopamine may have a role, indirect evidence indicates that serotonin may also contribute to the pathogenesis of complex VHs, probably via involvement of the serotonin 2 receptor.

Non-motor dopamine withdrawal syndrome after surgery for Parkinson's disease: predictors and underlying mesolimbic denervation
Apathy has been reported to occur after subthalamic nucleus stimulation, a treatment of motor complications in advanced Parkinson's disease. We carried out a prospective study of the occurrence of apathy and associated symptoms, predictors and mechanisms in the year following subthalamic stimulation.

Dopaminergic modulation of striato-frontal connectivity during motor timing in Parkinson's disease
Patients with Parkinson's disease experience motor and perceptual timing difficulties, which are ameliorated by dopaminergic medication. We investigated the neural correlates of motor timing in Parkinson's disease, including the effects of dopaminergic medication on patterns of brain activation.

Effect of histamine H(2) receptor antagonism on levodopa-induced dyskinesia in the MPTP-macaque model of Parkinson's disease
The use of nondopaminergic agents as adjuncts to levodopa are potential options for managing these problems. Here, we asses the ability of the clinically available, selective histamine H(2) antagonist, famotidine (1, 3, and 30 mg/kg) to treat levodopa-induced dyskinesia and wearing off in the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-macaque model of PD.
