World Parkinson's Disease Day - 11 April,
Dr James Parkinson's Birthday
The 9th WPDD this year marked the 250th anniversary of
Dr. James Parkinson's
birth and saw the launch of the Red TULIP - Worldwide
symbol of Parkinson's disease.
The international conference organised by the Working
Group on Parkinson's disease in collaboration with the
Association Parkinson Luxembourg (APL) was staged at the
Batiment Jean Monnet, in Luxembourg, the seat of the European
Presidency.
The Global Declaration was signed by HRH
The Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, the president of the parliament of Luxembourg, Lucien Weiler, the Speaker of the
House, Minister
for Health and Social Security, Mars Di Bartolomeo, and Rasheda Ali, daughter
of Muhammad Ali, the world famous boxer who has lived
with Parkinson's for over 20 years.

As part of the World PD Day celebrations, the Global
Declaration on Parkinson's Disease, translated into French and German,
was signed by Jean-Claude Juncker, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg
and the Luxembourg Minister of Health, in the presence of many high profile
personalities.
